A team of dedicated professionals is actively supporting long-term water security for the Gladstone region through the Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline and deserves recognition. Introducing Tich Masunungure, the Senior Quantity Surveyor for the project.
We asked Tich to tell us a bit about his role on the pipeline.
Can you tell us a little about your role on the Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline (FGP) and what excites you most about being part of this team?
I am the Senior Quantity Surveyor on the FGP. I am part of a team responsible for managing all commercial-related aspects with the broad responsibility of making sure that the contract is administered in accordance with the agreed terms.
What excites me most about the project is the calibre of the project team which is made up of seasoned professionals, who are not only extremely knowledgeable about their roles, but are genuine team players who have the success of the project and the welfare of their colleagues at heart. I look forward to going to work each day.
How do you think the local community will benefit from the FGP in the long run?
I believe the FGP will significantly reduce the impact of future local droughts and provide long-term water security for the community and industries in the Gladstone region.
What do you enjoy most about working in the Gladstone region and being involved in a project that supports water security and local infrastructure?
I am privileged to be part of a project team that has exceeded its local spending target of $90 million, achieving an incredible $130 million so far. This is a significant investment in the Gladstone and Rockhampton regions. Furthermore, I am part of a project that will enable the start-up and sustainability of future industries.
What is one thing people might not know about the pipeline and find interesting?
Each of the two reservoirs being constructed at Aldoga is approximately 76 metres in diameter, which is more than the width of a rugby field.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone interested in working in a similar role within the infrastructure sector?
Be proactive, adaptable, and always willing to learn. Large infrastructure projects are complex and ever-evolving, so having a problem-solving mindset and strong collaboration skills will set you apart.
Building strong relationships with your team and stakeholders is just as important as technical expertise—success comes from working together toward a common goal.
